Ukraine's Border Service updates border-crossing statistics
MOSCOW. May 18 (Interfax) - The number of people who crossed Ukraine's western borders over the week from May 9 to 15, 2026 decreased by only 0.8% to 485,000 compared with the previous week, with the number of arrivals and departures being roughly equal.
The number of people who crossed into Ukraine increased to 240,000 from 233,000 and the number of departures decreased to 245,000 from 256,000 compared with the previous week, Ukrainian media reported citing the State Border Service's daily statistics.
The number of vehicles carrying humanitarian aid across Ukrainian borders grew to 480 from 461 the week before.
According to the United Nations Refugee Agency's report updated on April 30, 2026, the number of Ukrainian refugees around the world was estimated at 5.762 million (down from 5.924 million as of February 19, 2026), including 5.213 million in European countries outside of Ukraine (down from 5.375 million).
Inside Ukraine, according to the UN's information updated in January 2026, there were around 3.7 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), compared with 3.34 million in July 2025 and 3.76 million in April 2025.
