London, Baku discuss reaching strategic partnership level - British ambassador

BAKU. May 12 (Interfax) - Baku and London have promising tracks for cooperation in the defense sector and are discussing raising bilateral relations to the strategic partnership level, British Ambassador Fergus Auld said.

New promising tracks where the two countries could develop defense cooperation exist, the Report news agency said, citing Auld.

Several months ago, representatives of the defense ministries of Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom signed a bilateral cooperation plan for 2026-2027 reiterating the transition to a deeper partnership, Auld said.

He also said that Baku and London are currently discussing expanding cooperation and reaching the strategic partnership level. "In August 2025, the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan agreed to raise bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership," he said. The strategic partnership will be based on the three key tracks, namely, defense and security, trade and investments, and innovations and education, he said.
