Kazakhstan, Brazil agree to strengthen ties

ALMATY. May 12 (Interfax) - The foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and Brazil held talks in Astana on Monday to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in political, trade, economic and cultural spheres, Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry said.

Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira also discussed coordinating efforts within international organizations.

"Kazakhstan views Brazil as a key and reliable partner in Latin America," Kosherbayev said, according to the ministry. "Today's talks confirmed mutual interest in further deepening cooperation and implementing new joint initiatives."

The ministers paid particular attention to trade, economic and investment cooperation. Both sides noted positive trade dynamics, with two-way trade reaching $295 million in 2025, and highlighted significant potential for expanding cooperation in industry, agriculture, energy and investment.

The ministry noted the strategic importance of transport and logistics potential for accessing international markets. "Kazakhstan and Brazil can serve as mutual gateways to Eurasia and Latin America," it said.

On international issues, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts in accordance with international law and the U.N. Charter, and noted similarities in their approaches to the global climate agenda.

Following the talks, the ministers expressed confidence in further strengthening Kazakh-Brazilian cooperation and giving new momentum to bilateral partnership.

During the visit, a business forum was held with leading business circles from both countries, including B2B and B2G meetings. Discussions focused on potential joint projects in high-tech agriculture, water resource management and digital technologies.
