Russia launches aluminum shipments to Armenia via Azerbaijan - media

BAKU. May 6 (Interfax) - Russia is about to start shipping aluminum to Armenia via Azerbaijan.

"A new transit shipment will pass from Russia through Azerbaijan to Armenia tomorrow. The cargo consists of two railcars loaded with aluminum," Azerbaijan Railways told the Report news agency.

Aluminum will be the fourth type of cargo shipped from Russia to Armenia via Azerbaijan. Grain products, fertilizers and buckwheat are currently shipped.

Azerbaijan Railways said nine more railcars loaded with Russian grain would be sent to Armenia via Azerbaijan on Thursday.

Transit shipments to Armenia via Azerbaijan began in the autumn of 2025.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said this week that from November 2025 to May 2026, some 28,000 tonnes of various cargo, primarily from Russia, had been shipped to Armenia via Azerbaijan.
