Armenia, UK sign strategic partnership declaration
YEREVAN. May 4 (Interfax) - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer signed a strategic partnership declaration in Yerevan on Monday.
"With today's Joint Declaration with Keir Starmer on a strategic partnership between Armenia and the United Kingdom, we open a new and promising chapter in Armenia-UK relations built on shared values and strengthened cooperation," Pashinyan said on X.
Starmer is in Yerevan to attend the 8th European Political Community summit.
The document circulated by the Armenian government says that Yerevan and London are committed to developing Armenia's capabilities in the areas of security, resilience and defense, border security, combating illegal migration, cyber resilience, and responding to hybrid threats.
Armenia and the United Kingdom intend to cooperate in promoting economic growth and diversification in Armenia, deepening bilateral trade and investment ties, and enhancing regional connectivity, including in the transport, energy, and communications sectors, it said.
The parties also declared their commitment to democratic values and acknowledged the importance of ensuring free and fair elections, combating corruption, and creating a favorable environment for independent media and civil society.
