Russian, Kazakh foreign ministries sign 2027-2028 cooperation plan

ASTANA. April 30 (Interfax) - Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov have signed a plan of cooperation between the two foreign ministries for 2027-2028 in Astana.

"At the end of the meeting, we signed a plan of cooperation between the Kazakh Foreign Ministry and the Russian Foreign Ministry for 2027-2028," Kosherbayev said in a press statement after meeting with Lavrov on Thursday.

The outcome of today's negotiations will foster the Kazakh-Russian strategic partnership and alliance, Kosherbayev said.

"We have had substantive and constructive negotiations today and have affirmed yet again the high level of Kazakh-Russian relations developing in the spirit of a comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance. Our countries have strong ties, they are connected by traditions of friendship and neighborliness, and maintain close economic, cultural and humanitarian relations and trade," he said.

Candid dialogue between the heads of state is crucial for the sustainable development of Kazakh-Russian relations, Kosherbayev said. He highlighted the state visit by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Russia in November last year, which provided guidelines for further joint work.

"We view the upcoming state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan as a major stage in bilateral interaction this year," he said.

Kosherbayev said he was hoping that Putin's visit would strengthen political dialogue and bring practical cooperation to a new level. "Russia has invariably been one of our leading trade partners," he said.

The negotiations addressed prospects of cooperation in priority areas, including energy, transport, logistics, industry, digitalization, cultural and humanitarian affairs, Kosherbayev said.

"There was a detailed exchange of views on current items on the regional and global agenda. The readiness for further close coordination of actions in key international and regional organizations was reaffirmed," he said.
