National Bank of Ukraine to transfer 73.6% more profit to the state budget for 2025

MOSCOW. April 28 (Interfax) - The National Bank of Ukraine will transfer UAH 146.1 billion in profit to the state budget for 2025, which is 73.6% or UAH 61.9 billion more than in 2024, Ukrainian media reported, quoting the regulator's consolidated financial statements.

"Despite the fact that profit is not any central bank's objective, the NBU will make a weighty contribution to supporting the state's stability this year also, by transferring a portion of its profit to the state budget for distribution," the quoted NBU Governor Andrei Pyshny as saying in a commentary.

The National Bank's profit for distribution in 2025 amounted to UAH 155 billion, of which UAH 8.9 billion will be allocated for general reserves, and the remainder to the state budget after the terms are agreed with the Finance Ministry. The regulator's consolidated profit for the year was UAH 153 billion.

The main components of this were net interest income of UAH 17.4 billion and the revaluation of financial instruments of almost UAH 113.2 billion, which resulted from changes in the official exchange rate and their fair value. Of this amount, UAH 16.4 billion was unrealized (previous) result, which is accumulated as a revaluation reserve in the National Bank's equity.

NBU expenses related to the preparation of banknotes, coins and other products, administrative expenses and personnel expenses in 2025 amounted to UAH 10 billion, while in 2024 they totaled UAH 8.1 billion.

The NBU's balance sheet total as of December 31, 2025 was UAH 3.3 trillion, up 2.2% from UAH 2.7 trillion at end-2024.

The bulk of the assets at the end of 2025 consisted of funds and deposits in foreign currency and bankable precious metals, totaling UAH 1.223.4 trillion, or 2.5 times the previous year's UAH 487.1 billion.

The volume of non-resident securities fell 11.9% to UAH 1.089 trillion, from UAH 1.235.9 trillion the previous year, while Ukrainian securities fell 2.1% to UAH 699.5 billion, from UAH 714.8 billion.

International reserves managed by the NBU increased 30.8% over the year to $57.3 billion from $43.8 billion.

The NBU's liabilities at the end of 2025 amounted to UAH 2.721 trillion, or 82% of the balance sheet total. The key changes over the year included a 13% increase in notes and coins in circulation to UAH 926.5 billion, 73% increase in funds from government and other institutions to UAH 481.3 billion, and 41% increase in deposit certificates issued by the National Bank of Ukraine to UAH 775.7 billion. Debt obligations to the IMF for quota contributions decreased by 57.6% to UAH 22.5 billion.

The National Bank's equity rose 2.1% in 2025 to UAH 579.5 billion from UAH 567.6 billion, due primarily to an increase in reserves revaluation.
