SIBUR's Nizhnekamskneftekhim expects 280 bln rubles in sales in six years from new polystyrene facility - authorities

KAZAN. April 28 (Interfax) - The polystyrene facility being built at petrochemical group SIBUR's Nizhnekamskneftekhim plant is expected to generate 280 billion rubles in revenue from product sales in its first six full years of operation, a memo attached to a draft Russian government resolution on the expansion of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Tatarstan said.

The new facility is expected to generate its first revenue by 2029, the memo, posted on the federal website for draft regulation, said. Investment in the project is expected to exceed 68 billion rubles over four years after the expansion of Alabuga.

The memo also provides some details about another SIBUR project, the construction of a plant to produce olefin polymerization catalysts in the Northern Gate Industrial Park in Kazan. The plant, which will cost over 42 billion rubles, is expected to begin generating an operating profit in 2029 and is forecast to generate 55 billion rubles in revenue in the three years after the expansion of the SEZ.

It was reported earlier that, following the launch of an ethylene production complex, Nizhnekamskneftekhim started building a facility to process the gaseous compound. The company began building ethylbenzene, styrene and polystyrene facilities in May 2024 with anticipated design capacity of, respectively, 350,000 tonnes, 400,000 tonnes and 250,000 tonnes. Production is scheduled to launch in 2028, SIBUR said earlier.

SIBUR began building the catalyst plant in Kazan in June 2025 and expects to complete the first phase and start production of chromium catalysts in 2027. The second phase will involve building a facility to produce metallocene catalysts.

Nizhnekamskneftekhim, one of the largest producers of synthetic rubber in the world and one of Russia's leading producers of plastics, has been part of SIBUR since October 2021.
