Russian, N. Korean parliament speakers discuss broader cooperation formats

PYONGYANG. April 27 (Interfax) - Russian Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin has called for broader formats of cooperation between Russian and North Korean lawmakers, at a meeting with the President of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Jo Yong Won.

"Russia-DPRK relations have been developing dynamically. This became possible thanks to the friendship and joint work of the countries' leaders, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un. In 2024, [they] signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement. For our part, we need, at the legislative level, to do everything for the implementation of the agreements of our heads of state," Volodin said on Saturday.

Russian Duma deputies are ready for such work, and if DPRK parliamentarians have proposals on the format and conduct of joint events, their Russian counterparts are always ready to consider and support them, Volodin said.

Russia attaches great importance to developing its cooperation with DPRK in various sectors, he said.

The Duma speaker also invited his North Korean counterpart to pay an official visit to Russia.
