Azerbaijan, Ireland discuss LNG, renewable energy cooperation

BAKU. April 23 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan and Ireland have discussed broader cooperation in liquefied natural gas and renewable energy, the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry said.

"The talks took place during a meeting between [Azerbaijani] Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and a delegation led by Tony McCormack, head of the Ireland-Azerbaijan Inter-parliamentary Group. They discussed prospects for developing bilateral relations, particularly expanding cooperation in the energy sector," the ministry said.

The parties emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary ties in strengthening relations and identifying new areas of cooperation, and Azerbaijan's contribution to Europe's energy security as a stable and reliable energy supplier amid global energy challenges.

"The Irish delegates described efforts being made in energy transition, the development of renewable energy sources and the modernization of energy infrastructure, and expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan in the energy sector," the ministry said.

Azerbaijan supplied 532,000 tonnes of oil to Ireland in 2025.

"The parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in the LNG sector. Irish companies were also invited to invest in Azerbaijani renewable energy projects, including electricity generation and transmission," the ministry said.

They also discussed Ireland's participation in the Baku Energy Week on June 1-3.
