Kazakhstan may increase grain exports to Tajikistan

ASTANA. April 17 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are exploring ways to increase supplies of Kazakh grain to the Tajik market, the press service of Kazakhstan's JSC Food Contract Corporation said.

Prospects for expanding cooperation were discussed during a meeting between the leadership of Food Contract Corporation and the Tajik Agency for State Material Reserves.

It was noted that Kazakhstan traditionally acts as the main supplier of wheat and flour to Tajikistan, where domestic production covers only around 40% of demand. In 2025, supplies of Kazakh wheat reached a five-year high of 1.2 million tonnes.

The head of the Tajik Agency for State Material Reserves, Nurmakhmad Akhmadzoda, said that the country plans to import up to 1.3 million tonnes of grain products in the current season.

In turn, the first deputy board chairman of Food Contract Corporation, Ildar Ismagulov, said that the company is ready to offer flexible supply mechanisms to Tajikistan, guaranteeing stable amounts of grain and required food products.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to work on signing a grain supply contract.

JSC Food Contract Corporation operates under the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry. The company was established in 1995 to maintain the state reserve of grain, as well as to stabilize the domestic grain market and promote Kazakh grain exports, including representing the country's interests in export markets.
