U.S. not to renew licenses on oil sales from Russia, Iran - Bessent
WASHINGTON. April 15 (Interfax) - The U.S. administration has no plans to renew licenses on oil sales from Russia and Iran, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Wednesday.
"We will not be renewing the general license on Russian oil. And we will not be renewing the general license on Iranian oil," he told reporters at the White House.
Bessent explained that the licenses covered oil that had already been loaded onto tankers in early March. All of this oil has already been sold, he said.
On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow has no information about a possible extension of the U.S. waiver for the sale of Russian oil and petroleum products in transit.
"No, no such announcements have been made," Peskov said at a press briefing in response to a question about the expiration of the U.S. waiver for the sale of Russian oil and petroleum products in transit on April 11.
