Ukraine plans to accumulate 14.6 bcm of gas by start of 2026-2027 autumn-winter season

MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - Ukraine has plans to accumulate 14.6 billion cubic meters of gas by the start of the 2026-2027 heating season, while the minimum required reserve should be at the level of previous years, 13.2 bcm, Ukrainian media reported, citing Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denis Shmygal.

Shmygal made a corresponding post on social media following a crisis committee meeting attended by representatives of energy companies, at which the projected balance of natural gas supply and distribution for 2026-2027 was approved, the media reported.

At the same time, Shmygal added that the minimum reserve required at the start of the autumn and winter season is 13.2 bcm.

He said that next winter would likely be as challenging as last year, so the forecast might be adjusted given the current situation.

The key tasks for a smooth passage through the next autumn and winter season remain the timely contracting of natural gas imports and the injection of resources into underground gas storage facilities during this period, Shmygal said.

Naftogaz of Ukraine and the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine are already working to secure potential capacity for natural gas imports, he said.
