Approach that European countries view Russia as threat, but buy its energy resources contradictory - Vance
BERLIN. April 8 (Interfax) - U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Wednesday that he does not understand the approach pursued by European countries, which view Russia as their biggest threat, yet have become dependent on its energy resources over the years.
"We do have some disagreements with the political leadership in particular. Why have the Europeans, while saying by the way that Russia is the biggest national security threat, why have the Europeans made themselves completely dependent on [...] sources of energy?" Vance said in a speech in Budapest.
"If you think that Russia, an energy superpower, is the biggest threat, you should do everything in your power to make yourselves economically and energy dominant," he said.
"The reason why we make criticism of European political capitals is because we want Europe to thrive," Vance added.
"We think they are making a lot of mistakes," he said.
