Ayon Energy signs EPC contract for construction of 250-MW solar power plant in Tajikistan
DUSHANBE. April 7 (Interfax) - Infrastructure contractor OJSC TGEM has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Tajik company Ayon Energy for the construction of a 250-MW solar power plant (SPP) in the Jayhun district of Tajikistan's Khatlon province, TGEM reported.
"Under the EPC contract, TGEM will carry out a full scope of works, including engineering, equipment supply, and construction of the photovoltaic power plant, ensuring project implementation in accordance with the approved technical requirements, international quality standards and established timelines," the statement reads.
The company said that signing the contract was the beginning of the practical implementation of the SPP construction project and would become one of Tajikistan's biggest renewable energy projects.
As reported, the government of Tajikistan signed an investment agreement with Ayon Energy in January on the construction of two 250-MW SPPs in the Asht district of the Sughd province and the Jayhun district of the Khatlon province, costing $250 million overall. The investor must finish building and commission the plant no later than August 2026.
Tajikistan's electricity development program for 2026-2030 involves commissioning at least 1.5 GW of new solar generation capacities, as disruptions to electricity supply are common in the autumn-winter period in Tajikistan due to a decline in output at hydroelectric power plants, linked to the instability of river flow, which decreases during cold periods. Tajikistan's energy mix currently consists of almost 98% of hydroelectric power plants (HPPs)
TGEM builds hydroelectric generation facilities and infrastructural sites. The company is building Roghun HPP, Tajikistan's largest, and is also implementing the CASA 1000 project in the country, building a cross-border high-voltage transmission line with a capacity of 500 kV, joining together Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan from one side and Afghanistan and Pakistan from the other.
Ayon Energy is an energy company which has implemented three projects so far.
