Rosatom supplies fuel for new unit at Xudabao NPP in China

MOSCOW. April 6 (Interfax) - TVEL, the fuel division of Rosatom state corporation, has delivered the first shipment of nuclear fuel to the new No. 3 power unit at the Xudabao Nuclear Power Plant in China, TVEL said.

"The delivery was made under TVEL's contract to supply fuel to power units 3 and 4 of the Xudabao Nuclear Power Plant, which are being constructed according to a Russian design using VVER-1200 generation III+ reactors," according to the statement.

Rosatom expects reactor unit startups tests at NPP in Bangladesh, China, and Turkey this year, as previously reported.

"The Bangladesh plant, Unit 1, is practically ready for startup operations. Much will now depend on the operating organization, on the Bengali regulator. We are awaiting reactor unit startup tests at Tianwan Unit 7 and Xudabao Unit 3 [Tianwan NPP Unit 7 and Xudabao NPP Unit 3, both located in China]. We are naturally preparing the Turkish project for startup operations. Yes, we will do everything to render Turkey's nuclear energy a reality this year," Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev said at the beginning of the year regarding the company's plans for 2026.

Russia's Rosatom is building units at two nuclear power plants in China, namely Tianwan units 7 and 8 and Xudabao units 3 and 4. The respective parties signed the framework contracts for the projects several years ago, and construction began in the spring of 2022.
