Russian govt approves roadmap for developing supercomputer infrastructure
MOSCOW. March 16 (Interfax) - The Russian government has approved a roadmap for the development of high-performance computing and supercomputer infrastructure.
The Cabinet of Ministers said in a statement that the key objective of the document would be to outline unified requirements for the operation of computing centers, as well as to prepare a development strategy for the new-generation national research computer network. This network joins together hundreds of leading universities and research organizations and helps scientists to conduct research requiring large volumes of data to be processed and transferred, the statement reads.
Part of the measures from the roadmap are aimed at developing a concept for a relevant federal science and technology program, with a focus on creating and integrating Russian software and algorithms for supercomputers in various sectors of the economy.
The statement says that a large number of highly qualified specialists will be needed in order to achieve the goals laid out for the sector, and that curriculums will therefore be adjusted in order to ensure there are enough engineers and software developers working in the industry. These efforts should result in a significant number of people being trained in these professions.
