Russian fishing industry earns over 1 trln rubles in revenue in 2025 - Fish Union
MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - The Russian fishing industry boosted revenue 14% to over 1 trillion rubles in 2025, the Fish Union reported on the basis of Rosstat data.
Fishing revenue grew 18% to 630 billion rubles, approximately double the result from 2020. "Since 2021, a pattern has been observed - in 'salmon' years, revenue increases 20%-30% from one year to the next, while the 'non-salmon' years see revenue either stagnate or decrease," the statement reads.
Revenue from fish processing grew 13% to 400 billion rubles. This indicator has more than doubled since 2018, though the rate of growth was still higher in 2018 and 2019, at 26%-33%.
The aquafarming industry saw revenue fall 17% to 35 billion rubles. However, this result was still three times higher than in 2020. The Fish Union said that the industry's revenue increased 2.5-fold in 2021 and the rate of growth declined thereafter, with revenue beginning to decrease in 2024.
The union also said that the Russian fishing industry increased its turnover 13% to 1.2 trillion rubles in 2025. There were mixed trends in different areas of the industry.
Turnover in the fishing sub-industry increased 13% to 673 billion rubles, more than double what it was in 2018. It increased 14% in fish processing to 477 billion rubles. "After the crisis of 2021-2022, where turnover either decreased or stagnated, it grew steadily by 14%-17% each year in 2023-2025," the statement says.
The aquafarming industry saw turnover fall 2% to 66 billion rubles; however, this was triple the result from 2019-2020.
