Russia, Vietnam preparing to sign series of documents for nuclear energy partnership - Russian Energy Ministry
MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - Russia and Vietnam are preparing to sign a series of documents in the near future regarding their partnership in the field of nuclear energy, the Russian Energy Ministry reported following a meeting between Deputy Energy Minister Roman Marshavin and Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi.
The documents will define the strategy for the partnership between Russia and Vietnam over the coming decade, the ministry said in its statement.
It was reported in May 2025 that Rosatom was prepared to offer to build two VVER-1200 nuclear reactors in Vietnam, and the two parties agreed to sign an intergovernmental agreement shortly thereafter on the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in the country.
"As always, we need to negotiate the precise technical features and the legal framework of this project, and, of course, financial support. These negotiations have begun today," Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev said then.
In May 2025, Rosatom signed a roadmap for the development of peaceful nuclear energy in Vietnam before 2030. Likhachev previously said that Vietnam had decided to resume work on the Ninh Thuan 1 NPP project, which it suspended in 2016.
