Ferrosplavnaya line restored, reconnected to Zaporozhye NPP - IAEA
PARIS. March 5 (Interfax) - Specialists have restored and reconnected the Ferrosplavnaya transmission line to Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Thursday.
"The Ferosplavnaya-1 330kV power line has been restored and reconnected to the ZNPP after repair works carried out under a local ceasefire," an IAEA statement said on X.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said this "strengthens nuclear safety and security" of the facility, it said.
On February 27 Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev said a local ceasefire was imposed in the NPP area to enable the repair and restoration work at the Zaporozhye thermal power station and Ferrosplavnaya line. The ceasefire was agreed on with Grossi's participation and support from Russia's Defense Ministry, National Guard and Foreign Ministry, Likhachev said.
The Zaporozhye NPP with six VVER-1000 reactor units is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It stopped generating electricity on September 11, 2022. All six reactors are in a cold shutdown.
All plant facilities are incorporated into the Zaporozhye NPP federal state unitary enterprise and owned by Russia. The Zaporozhye NPP Operator, founded by Rosatom's Rosenergoatom, runs the plant.
