EU announces high-level energy dialogue with Azerbaijan

BAKU. March 3 (Interfax) - The European Union and Azerbaijan have agreed on a high-level energy dialogue in 2026, European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen said.

"Just as we have been discussing also on a broader basis the possibilities for more interconnectivity between the EU and Azerbaijan. [...] It has been a very fruitful day building on a very good relationship. We have decided to meet at a high-level energy dialogue in Brussels later this year," Jorgensen said at a press conference following the 12th Southern Gas Advisory Council and 4th Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meeting.

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov will represent Azerbaijan at this meeting, he said.

Jorgensen also pointed out the high role Azerbaijani gas is playing for Europe amid the EU giving up on importing Russian gas.

"It's very clear that gas we can get from Azerbaijan is extremely important for us. We are very satisfied with the collaboration," he said.

There is a potential to increase the amounts of imports of Azerbaijani gas in the future and significant opportunities to expand cooperation, including in renewable energy sources, Jorgensen said.
