Kremlin expects some European countries to seek seizure of Russia's immobilized assets despite opposition from others - Peskov

MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The Kremlin expects that some European countries will continue to seek the seizure of immobilized Russian assets, even though a number of countries are opposed to it, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"Given this prevailing sentiment among European countries, it's clear that they'll continue their attempts to push through and legitimize this theft," Peskov told reporters on Friday, commenting on the German Federal Foreign Office's statement that the seizure of immobilized Russian assets was irrelevant for the time being.

Belgium, as a depository country, is categorically opposed to such a seizure, Peskov said.

"There are also a number of other countries that are aware of the inevitable negative consequences of the decision to expropriate our assets. It's they who have become an obstacle that has yet to be overcome," Peskov said.
