Inter RAO not currently supplying electricity to China, does not rule out both exports, imports in future - senior manager
MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Russia's PJSC Inter RAO is not currently supplying electricity to China; the remaining small amount of exports ceased in January 2026, company management board member Alexandra Panina said during a conference call with analysts and investors.
At the same time, the company does not rule out resuming exports in the future. However, this will be influenced in particular by the water levels at hydroelectric power plants in the Far East, she said.
Panina also did not rule out the possibility of importing electricity from China to Russia.
Electricity exports from Russia to China totaled 306.5 million kWh in 2025, according to data from the Chinese customs administration.
China was previously one of the main directions for electricity exports from Russia. However, supplies to China began to be limited in 2023 due to increased energy consumption in Russia's Far Eastern regions. Electricity exports from Russia to China fell to 3.1 billion kWh in 2023 compared to 4.6 billion kWh in 2022 and subsequently continued to steadily decline.
According to the newspaper Kommersant, China completely ceased purchasing electricity from Russia in January 2026, as export prices exceeded domestic ones.
