Kyrgyz FM urges UK to reconsider sanctions approach to Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev and British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper have discussed the risk posed by unilateral sanctions to bilateral trade and investments at a meeting in London, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry's press service said on Friday.

Kulubaev expressed concern about the restrictive measures and called for balanced dialogue, it said.

"Addressing the issue of sanctions imposed by the United Kingdom, Minister Kulubaev conveyed concern about the potential negative impact of unilateral restrictive measures on trade, economic, and financial cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the United Kingdom. He emphasized that the Kyrgyz side, opposing the politicization of international economic and commercial relations, remains ready for open and constructive dialogue aimed at reaching mutually acceptable and pragmatic solutions," the press service said.

The sides exchanged views on global and regional affairs and the bilateral interaction in international and regional organizations, it said.
