ArcelorMittal Krivoi Rog to raise prices for rebar, wire rod by $50/tonne from March
MOSCOW. Feb 26 (Interfax) - ArcelorMittal Krivoi Rog (AMKR, Dnepropetrovsk region), a major Ukrainian steel plant, will raise prices for its rebar and wire rod by $50 per tonne starting March 2026. Ukrainian media quoted AMKR as saying in a press release that the main reason for this step is the high cost of electricity in Ukraine. Electricity prices have continued to rise rapidly in recent years, making them the highest in Europe and significantly increasing production costs, it said.
The average price of electricity reached approximately $120 per MWh (excluding VAT) in Q2 2024, causing the company to urgently ask the Ukrainian government to help curb energy costs, it said. Prices have continued to grow since then, reaching around $320/MWh in February 2026 and exceeding $370/MWh in peak hours.
"This unprecedented rise in energy prices has forced the company to take immediate measures to ensure the economic viability of its operations," AMKR said.
ArcellorMittal Krivoi Rog is the largest producer of rolled steel in Ukraine. The company specializes in making long steel products, in particular, rebar and wire rod. It has the full production cycle and is able to produce more than 6 million tonnes of steel, over 5 million tonnes rolled products and over 5.5 million tonnes of pig iron per year.
ArcelorMittal's assets in Ukraine include AMKR along with several smaller enterprises, such as ArcelorMittal Berislav.
