Turkmenistan, Germany's BASF bolstering collaboration in oil and gas sector

ASHGABAT. Feb 24 (Interfax) - Turkmenistan and Germany's BASF Group plan to expand cooperation in the oil and gas industry, Turkmen media reported following a meeting in Ashgabat between the leadership of the state-owned concerns Turkmengaz and Turkmennebit with Viktor Nikitin, head of business development at BASF Intertrade AG, the corporation's Swiss subsidiary.

"Representing the interests of Germany's chemical leader headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, the company has confirmed its intention to expand its technological presence in the Turkmen market," the Orient news agency reported.

A new stage of cooperation could include implementing the patented OASE technology, which enables the most efficient purification of natural gas, while reducing energy costs and environmental impact.

According to Orient, BASF Intertrade AG is ready to offer Turkmenistan comprehensive service support, personnel training, and consulting services for new large-scale projects for the advanced processing of hydrocarbons into finished products with high benefit in addition to equipment supplies.

The State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports that BASF is involved in regional projects in the country, with the company's gas cleaning equipment having been specifically selected for the new gas chemical complex in Kiyanly. The company could also provide technical support and consulting services if needed.

As previously reported, Turkmenhimiya state concern, Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corporation, as well as Turkey's Gap Insaat Yatirim ve Dis Ticaret Anonim Sirketi, signed a framework agreement in April 2025 regarding collaboration to design, procure, and deliver turnkey construction for a urea production plant with capacity of 1.155 million tonnes per year in Kiyanly, in the Balkan Province.
