Ukraine, Romania to restrict vehicle passage via border checkpoint over repairs

MOSCOW. Feb 17 (Interfax) - Vehicle traffic through the Solotvino-Sighetu Marmatiei checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Romanian border will be restricted from February 16 to April 3, 2026 due to repairs on the bridge infrastructure across the Tisza River being carried out by Romania, Ukrainian media reported referring to the State Customs Service.

The restrictions will be in effect for 47 days from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the State Customs Service said citing the Romanian Foreign Ministry.

The average daily traffic via this checkpoint in both directions is some 450 vehicles weighing up to 2.5 tonnes and up to 1,000 people, it said.

The pedestrian crossing through the checkpoint in both directions is continuing to operate normally without restrictions.

The State Customs Service recommended that travelers take this information into account and choose alternative crossings if they plan to cross the border during the day.
