EU allows poultry meat supplies from entire territory of Moldova

CHISINAU. Feb 13 (Interfax) - The European Commission has authorized Moldova to export fresh and processed poultry meat to the European market from the entire territory of the country, the Moldovan National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) said.

The European Commission adopted this decision on February 6, it said.

"This decision is the result of ANSA's efforts, which provided sufficient guarantees that there have been no outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the areas of origin of the products for at least 12 months. This decision strengthens the status of Moldova in the European system for regulating exports of products of animal origin, confirming compliance with public health and animal health standards applied in the country," the agency said.

The decision confirms European-level recognition of the national sanitary and veterinary control system and strengthens export opportunities for Moldovan producers in the EU market, contributing to the development of poultry farming and increasing the competitiveness of local products, it said.

Previously, the European Commission permitted exports of poultry meat and products derived from it only from certain regions of the country not affected by avian influenza outbreaks.

A total of 68% of Moldova's exports went to European Union countries in 2025. Supplies of Moldovan products to countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) accounted for less than 5% of exports.
