Kyrgyz parliament elects new speaker
BISHKEK. Feb 12 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz MPs elected Marlen Mamataliyev to the post of parliament speaker by secret ballot at a session on Thursday.
Mamataliyev was the only candidate nominated by all parliamentary groups. He was elected in a 77-5 vote.
Mamataliyev is a Kyrgyz MP, Yntymak party leader and a member of the budget, economic and fiscal policy committee.
Earlier, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu tendered his resignation from the post of Kyrgyz parliament speaker. The parliament speaker's possible resignation has been discussed since Kamchybek Tashiyev was relieved of his duties as State Committee on National Security head.
