Georgia joins Eurasian Transport Route association

BAKU. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Georgia has become a member of the Eurasian Transport Route international association (headquartered in Baku), the press service of CJSC Azerbaijan Railways (AR) said.

The decision was made in Tashkent on Monday during a meeting between the chairman of AR, Rovshan Rustamov, JSC Uzbekiston Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) Board Chairman Zufar Narzullayev and JSC Georgian Railway General Director Lasha Abashidze. Georgia's membership in the association will make a significant contribution to the development of both the route itself, which forms the southern branch of the Middle Corridor (the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, TITR), and regional cooperation as a whole, the press service said.

"The parties also exchanged views on the development of the Eurasian Transport Route during the meeting, noting that with the completion of the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway line, this route could become more attractive for cargo transportation in the East-West direction," it said.

The AR delegation also held a meeting with representatives of leading Uzbek freight forwarding companies, during which, in particular, the growing strategic importance of the Middle Corridor, Azerbaijan's transit opportunities on this route and prospects for developing interregional cargo transportation were discussed.

The parties exchanged views on increasing cargo levels, optimizing logistics processes and opportunities for long-term cooperation.

The Uzbek side expressed interest in cooperating with AR and implementing joint projects as part of the Middle Corridor, including the Eurasian Transport Route.

As reported, in September 2024, the railway administrations of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, China and Austria agreed to establish the Eurasian Transport Route association with its headquarters in Baku. The legal registration process of the association was completed in November 2025 in accordance with Azerbaijani legislation.

The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea water area, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further to Turkey and European countries. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which has been commissioned, is part of the corridor.
