OTEKO to bring 300,000 tonne mineral fertilizer warehouse to design capacity in 2026

KRASNODAR. Feb 5 (Interfax) - The company OTEKO, the largest investor in the port of Taman's infrastructure, will bring a warehouse designed for 300,000 tonnes of simultaneous storage of mineral fertilizers to its design capacity this year, the company told Interfax.

"The covered mineral fertilizer warehouse in the port of Taman with a design capacity of 300,000 tonnes is one of the largest in the world. It is divided into ten sections, which will allow OTEKO to work with a wide range of bulk fertilizers. According to expert estimates, the global mineral fertilizer market will see steady growth in the medium term; in particular, demand for fertilizers in developing countries of the global south will increase," the company said.

The facility's commissioning will allow for the loading of large deadweight vessel consignments of up to 120,000 tonnes at OTEKO's Taman Bulk Cargo Terminal (TBCT).

As reported, TBCT began handling mineral fertilizers in September last year. They arrive at the terminal by rail in hopper cars. Unloading from the cars and loading onto the vessel takes place on a new specialized technological line. The main cargoes planned for handling at the terminal are urea, nitroammophoska, ammonium sulfate, MAP (monoammonium phosphate) and DAP (diammonium phosphate).

"The design handling level of 5 million tonnes per year allows us to talk about the establishment of a full-scale southern export corridor for mineral fertilizers, one of the most in-demand export cargoes," the company said.

OTEKO is the largest private investor in port infrastructure in southern Russia, developing a stevedoring business in several areas - transshipment of bulk cargo, oversized and heavy-lift cargo, petroleum products and LPG. The bulk cargo transshipment terminal has a design capacity of 70 million tonnes per year, including 50 million tonnes of coal.

The company increased cargo handling 23% in 2025 to 25 million tonnes.
