Tajikistan attracts $1.5 bln for state energy projects in 2025

DUSHANBE. Feb 2 (Interfax) - Tajikistan attracted $1.496 billion in 2025 for implementing 13 state investment projects in the energy sector, the Tajik Energy and Water Resources Ministry said.

Among the key projects being implemented in the country are the reconstruction of the Sarband HPP (hydro unit no. 4), the Kairakkum and Nurek HPPs, the regional CASA-1000 electricity transmission project and a number of others.

In addition, projects are being implemented in the country for the electrification of rural areas, reconnecting to the Central Asian Unified Energy System (Tajikistan's energy system has been operating outside the unified system since 2009), reducing electricity losses in the Khatlon region (in Kulob and Bokhtar), and an energy sector development program aimed at reducing electricity losses in Dushanbe, Panjakent, Istaravshan, Isfara, Kanibadam and Buston and the Danghara district.

Special attention is being paid to implementing projects in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region. Work continued here on five projects in 2025, including the construction of the Sebzor HPP, the electrification of rural areas, the installation of a 3 MW solar power plant in the Shugnan district, the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in the Residential and Industrial Sectors project, and a number of others. The total funding for these projects amounted to $134.7 million.
