EBRD doubles investment in Moldova in 2025

CHISINAU. Jan 29 (Interfax) - Investment by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Moldova amounted to 508 million euros in 2025 compared to 280 million euros in 2024, the bank said.

The EBRD "invested 508 million euros in 19 projects in Moldova in 2025, almost double the 280 million euros invested across 14 projects in 2024 and close to Moldova's all-time record of 525 million euros in 2022," the bank said in a press release.

More than half of the total 3 billion euros invested by the bank in Moldova's economy since 1992 falls within the last four years, it said.

EBRD investments in Moldova reflect the country's process of integration with the European Union, the bank said. A total of 67% of the bank's portfolio in the country is invested in creating infrastructure, 21% goes to the corporate sector, and another 12% is allocated to banks for financing the private sector.

Among the key projects implemented last year, the EBRD highlighted a program to support Moldova's energy security (a credit line for purchasing gas and electricity), modernizing roads and transport corridors towards Romania and Ukraine, and new financing for agricultural business and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Overall, 2025 was a record year for the EBRD in terms of allocated funds - 16.8 billion euros compared to 16.6 billion euros in 2024, it said.
