Freight road transit through Georgia down 4.5% in 2025
TBILISI. Jan 21 (Interfax) - Freight road transit through Georgia totaled 489,400 vehicles in 2025 compared to 512,670 vehicles in 2024 and 520,000 in 2023, the publication bpn.ge reported, citing data from the Georgian Finance Ministry.
Transit through Georgia therefore decreased 4.5% last year after falling 1.4% in 2024.
Due to the decrease in transit, Georgia's budget revenues from this area also fell 4.5% in 2025, totaling 171.3 million lari ($63.4 million at the current exchange rate).
In 2024, Georgia's revenues from freight road transit amounted to 179.4 million lari compared to a record 182 million lari in 2023 (up 42% compared to 2022).
Demand for the Georgian road corridor sharply increased in 2022, and in June that year the Georgian government raised the transport fee for trucks traveling through the country's territory 1.8-fold to $130.
