SPIMEX planning to launch trading in platinum bullion - exchange president
MOSCOW. Jan 21 (Interfax) - The St. Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange (SPIMEX) is preparing to organize trading in platinum bullion, SPIMEX president Igor Artemyev said at a press conference.
Artemyev said that the SPIMEX is collaborating with Norilsk Nickel on the matter. The Finance Ministry has a specific interest in organizing the trading, though everything currently depends on the need to amend legislation.
"We are not be able to create a liquid market - not for gold, not for silver, not for platinum - without adopting amendments," Artemyev said.
"Once we have developed a liquid market - and we aspire to become the second LME - this will be a domestic indicator for gold and silver," Artemyev said.
The State Administration for the Issue of Bank Notes (Goznak) is the SPIMEX's partner in organizing trading in precious metals.
The SPIMEX launched trading in precious metals in October 2025, with one 1-kg gold bar having been sold for approximately 11 million rubles and one 29.5-kg silver bar having been sold for 5.7 million rubles.
