Russia's Sinara-TM developing universal high-speed railcar for railway track maintenance

YEKATERINBURG. Jan 16 (Interfax) - JSC Sinara Transport Machines (Sinara-TM or STM, part of Sinara Group) is developing a multi-function railcar that will be used for the maintenance of railway tracks, including high-speed lines (HSL), the company's press service said.

The railcar, like the machine of the previous generation, will be able to reach speeds of up to 140 km/h. The new model features a significantly revised component base and uses a modular cabin, STM Executive Director Vitaly Votolevsky said.

"We expect that the characteristics of the railcar under development will allow it to find its application in the maintenance of high-speed lines," the press service quoted Votolevsky as saying.

It is assumed that the unified basic chassis of the new railcar will be equipped with a set of interchangeable modules (including for welding work, contact wire stringing, and personnel and cargo transport), as well as a mounting tower, an inspection and maintenance block for artificial structures, a compressor module and a removable de-icing device.

"This approach significantly reduces equipment costs and will make railway infrastructure maintenance more efficient and flexible, replacing three different machines with one universal one that can be easily reconfigured for a specific task," the press service said.

The development of the railcar is being carried out by the design bureau Kalugaputmash and STM Research and Development Center (part of STM). Currently, engineers are creating digital models and working on the composition and interaction of the future machine's components. Its final appearance will be formed by the completion of this phase, with the dimensions, functionality and operating principles of the interchangeable modules determined.

As reported, the STM enterprise Ural Locomotives is implementing a project in the Sverdlovsk region to produce high-speed trains, which will be used on the prospective Moscow - St. Petersburg HSL. The HSL will pass through the territory of six federal subjects of Russia, connecting Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Moscow, Tver, Novgorod and Leningrad regions. The line's length will be 679 km. With the launch of the HSL, travel time between Moscow and St. Petersburg will be 2 hours and 15 minutes. The launch of the line is expected in 2028. It is anticipated that at least 23 million people will use the Moscow-St. Petersburg HSL annually.

STM is a full-cycle engineering holding, founded in 2007. The company unites 24 production sites and more than 60 service centers. It is part of Sinara Group.
