SOCAR begins supplying Azerbaijani gas to Germany, Austria

BAKU. Jan 16 (Interfax) - The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) has begun supplying Azerbaijani gas to Germany and Austria via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), SOCAR said.

"SOCAR has begun a new important stage in gas exports from Azerbaijan, selling significant amounts of gas to the markets of Southern and Central Europe via TAP, which is the European segment of the Southern Gas Corridor. Starting from January 2026, Azerbaijani gas, in addition to other countries, is being supplied to customers from Austria and Germany," the company said.

Gas supplies to Austria and Germany via Italy "further expand the geographical reach of Azerbaijani gas in Europe," it said.

"The number of countries receiving Azerbaijani gas has reached 16. SOCAR, in accordance with its gas strategy, is constantly expanding its gas marketing activities in the regions of Europe and the Middle East, increasing its portfolio of cooperation with buyers from various countries and further strengthening Azerbaijan's position as a reliable energy supplier," it said.

The company did not specify the amount of gas supplies to the aforementioned countries or other details.

As reported, the German company SEFE (Securing Energy for Europe) signed a contract to purchase gas from SOCAR for ten years on June 10, 2025. The annual amount will gradually increase to 15 TWh, which amounts to around 1.5 billion cubic meters.

Previously, with reference to operational data from the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry, it was reported that Azerbaijan exported 25.2 bcm of gas in 2025, which corresponds to the 2024 figure. In 2025, 12.8 bcm were supplied to Europe, 9.6 bcm to Turkey (including 5.6 bcm via the Trans-Anatolian [TANAP] Pipeline), 2.3 bcm to Georgia and 0.5 bcm to Syria.
