U.S. allocates $140 mln to develop TRIPP project - Armenian PM Pashinyan
YEREVAN. Jan 15 (Interfax) - The United States has invested $140 million in the preparatory phase of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"The United States has currently already allocated $140 million preliminarily for the preparatory phase of the TRIPP program," Pashinyan said on Thursday at a briefing.
Pashinyan said that all further investments would depend on specific projects and corresponding calculations.
"The investments will undoubtedly be significant, though. However, no one will tell you a specific amount today," Pashinyan said.
As reported, Armenia and the United States have agreed to establish a joint venture to develop transport routes in Armenia as part of the TRIPP project.
TRIPP Development will be responsible for developing TRIPP infrastructure, under U.S. oversight. The project's roadmap, as published by the U.S. State Department, specifies that Armenia intends to offer the U.S. a 74% stake in the company, while retaining 26%. Armenia's stake could increase to 49% going forward.
Following a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that TRIPP opens Armenia to business and allows it to thrive economically, though does so in a way that in no way infringes on Armenia's sovereignty.
The TRIPP project will connect the mainland of Azerbaijan with the exclave of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Armenia along a 42-kilometer road.
Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in August 2025 signed a declaration in Washington, stating that Yerevan would collaborate with Washington and certain third parties to develop the framework for the TRIPP project in Armenia. The project envisages constructing roadway, railway, and oil and gas infrastructure.
