European Commission proposes spending most of 90-bln-euro loan on Ukraine's military needs
BRUSSELS. Jan 14 (Interfax) - Most of the 90-billion-euro European loan to Ukraine will be spent on arms purchases, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday.
"This proposal says that we propose to split the 90 billion euros in two parts. One third, that is 30 billion euros, will be for budgetary support. And two thirds of the 90 billion euros will be for military support, 60 billion euros," von der Leyen said at a press conference in Brussels.
European manufacturers will be prioritized in the procurement of weapons for Ukraine, she said, adding that orders could be placed with non-EU countries if necessary.
