European Commission could discuss 90 bln euro loan to Kiev for 2026-2027 on Jan 14

BRUSSELS. Jan 13 (Interfax) - The procedure and conditions for the EU's loan of 90 billion euros to Ukraine for the next two years could be outlined in more detail on January 14, European Commission Chief Spokesperson Paula Pinho said.

"I must ask you to wait a little - soon, perhaps even tomorrow, we will be able to provide more information," the press secretary said at a briefing in Brussels on Tuesday, where she was asked to explain the criteria for granting the loan to Kiev, the procedure by which it will be allocated to buy weapons for Ukraine and the link with the EC SAFE defense program.

Pinho said that the agenda for the European Commission's next meeting was still being discussed by the heads of the European Commissioner's cabinets and that it was possible that the corresponding information could arise on the day of the EC meeting on Wednesday.

European Council President Antonio Costa said on December 19, 2025 that the EU member states had agreed to provide Ukraine with financial assistance in the amount of 90 billion euros.
