Azerbaijan supplies Italy with 9.5 bcm of gas, 10 mln tonnes of oil in 2025 - Azerbaijani Energy Ministry
BAKU. Jan 13 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan supplied Italy with 9.5 billion cubic meters of gas in 2025, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said.
"Last year, through the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic [SOCAR] Italy received 10.34 million tonnes of oil. Also, a total of 9.5 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas was supplied to the country last year. To date, 54.3 billion cubic meters of gas have been supplied to Europe via the TAP [Trans-Adriatic] Pipeline [from Azerbaijan], and 45.4 billion cubic meters to Italy," Shahbazov said on Tuesday at a meeting of the Azerbaijani-Italian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation.
Italy is Azerbaijan's largest trading partner, accounting for 25% of Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover and 46.7% of Azerbaijan's exports, he said.
"To date, $342 million has been invested from Azerbaijan to Italy, and $805 million from Italy to Azerbaijan. The market value of the State Oil Fund's investment portfolio in Italy is $2.8 billion," he said.
He recalled that the Italian company CESI SpA provides consulting services in preparing feasibility studies for projects to create the Caspian - Black Sea - Europe and Central Asia - Azerbaijan green energy corridors.
"The Caspian - Black Sea - Europe energy corridor, which will be put into operation in stages from 2032, will allow Italy to benefit from the electricity that will enter the European market," he said.
The commission reviewed current issues regarding the development of political cooperation and the trade and economic, industrial, energy, transport, information and communication spheres, and in other areas. Following the meeting, the parties signed a protocol and adopted an action plan, providing for 65 events in 18 areas in 2026-2027.
The Azerbaijani Energy Ministry, citing operational data, previously said that Azerbaijan exported 25.2 bcm of gas in 2025, which corresponds to the 2024 figure. A total of 12.8 bcm were supplied to Europe, 9.6 bcm to Turkey, 2.3 bcm to Georgia and 0.5 bcm to Syria.
Azerbaijan has contracts to supply gas to 12 countries in Europe, namely Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia, North Macedonia, Germany and Ukraine. The annual volume should gradually increase to 15 terawatt-hours (TWh), which is around 1.5 billion cubic meters, including long-term contracts with a fixed supply volume to Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria, and with Germany's Securing Energy for Europe GmbH (SEFE) for 10 years. Contracts without exact purchase volumes have been signed with the remaining countries.
