Armenia to get access to Russian railways via Azerbaijan - Aliyev

BAKU. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Armenia will gain access to Russian railways via Azerbaijan as part of unblocking transport links in the South Caucasus, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

"Armenia will benefit from unblocking transport links in the South Caucasus," he said in an interview with Azerbaijani television channels, adding that this will be "beneficial for everyone."

"This is because Armenia can and will get out of the current impasse. Roads between Azerbaijan and Armenia will open. Roads between Turkey and Armenia will open. Armenia will have access to Iran's railways via Nakhchivan, and to Russia's railways via Azerbaijan, meaning this is beneficial for Armenia as well. There should be no losing side here. In any case, from an economic and transport point of view, there will be no losers," he said.

A railroad must be built that will connect Nakhchivan with Turkey, Aliyev added. "All these projects should certainly be implemented in close coordination," he said.
