CIS Electric Power Council preparing strategy to develop fuel and energy complex through 2050

MINSK. Jan 12 (Interfax) - The Commonwealth of Independent States Electric Power Council is drafting a strategy to develop the fuel and energy complex through 2050, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev said.

"The CIS Electric Power Council is drafting a strategy to develop the fuel and energy complex of CIS member states through 2050 in order to develop additional mechanisms for industry development and effectively respond to challenges affecting the fuel and energy complex and requiring coordinated efforts," the CIS Executive Committee press service quoted Lebedev as saying.

Lebedev said that CIS member countries recognize energy security as a priority for their state policy and a key area for cooperation in the area.

"The 'Declaration on Cooperation in Ensuring Regional Energy Security', as initiated by Russia, was adopted in October 2025, in order to address the matter comprehensively," Lebedev said.
