Former German ambassador to Ukraine to serve as Ukrainian business ombudsman

MOSCOW. Dec 29 (Interfax) - Anka Feldhusen, who served as the German ambassador to Ukraine from July 2019 through July 2023, has been chosen as the next Ukrainian business ombudsman in a contest.

A government resolution has been drafted to confirm Feldhusen in this position, as decided by the Supervisory Board of the Business Ombudsman Council on November 25, 2025, Ukrainian media said, citing the website of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.

"The Business Ombudsman Council is an institution that helps entrepreneurs protect their legal rights and interests in interactions with government agencies outside of court. Its continued operation is critical for building business trust in government institutions, reducing administrative barriers, and improving the quality of government services for entrepreneurs," the ministry said, speaking of the Council's mission.

It also said that Feldhusen became the German Foreign Ministry's representative for stabilization and prevention of civilian crises after leaving the position of the ambassador to Ukraine.

Alexei Dolgikh, managing partner of Boyden Ukraine, which specializes in the recruitment of top managers and has been chosen by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to select the next business ombudsman, has said there were no Ukrainians among applicants.

As reported, incumbent business ombudsman, former Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Roman Waschuk was appointed to the position on December 9, 2021. His tenure ends this December. Waschuk succeeded to former Warsaw Mayor Marcin Swiecick, who became business ombudsman in 2019.
