Japan's Muroosystems to assist Uzbekistan in constructing data center powered by future NPP
TASHKENT. Dec 22 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan's Atomic Energy Agency, Uzatom, and Japan's Muroosystems Corporation have launched a project to construct a data center powered entirely by nuclear energy, Uzatom's press service said.
The project envisions constructing a data center with planned power consumption of up to 50 MW. The facility will be powered exclusively by small modular reactors that should create stable and predictable demand for nuclear power, as well as improve the efficiency of nuclear capacity.
Uzatom believes that the key feature of the project is integrating nuclear energy and digital infrastructure. Constructing the data center should create opportunities to develop digital services in Uzbekistan and improve the reliability of energy supplies. The project should also demonstrate the potential of small modular reactors as a stable and efficient source of electricity for high-load technological facilities, Uzatom said.
Founded in 2006, Muroosystems specializes in IT solutions and renewable energy projects.
Uzbekistan plans to begin construction of an integrated nuclear power plant in 2026. JSC Atomstroyexport, the engineering division of Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation, is the general contractor. The project involves constructing a NPP with VVER-1000 and RITM-200N reactors.
