Kazakhstan, Japan agree to supply uranium concentrate to latter country
ASTANA. Dec 22 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's Kazatomprom nuclear company and Japan's Kansai Electric Power Co. have signed a long-term agreement for the sale and purchase of natural uranium concentrate, the press service of the Kazakh Invest national company reported.
The deal's value, volume, and delivery deadlines have not been specified. The agreement envisages the commercial supply of uranium products for Japanese nuclear power plants.
Kazatomprom mines uranium, processes rare metals, and manufactures and markets beryllium and tantalum products, and exports 100% of its production. The company is state-controlled, with a 25% free float.
Kazatomprom boosted uranium production 10% year-on-year to 23,270 tonnes in 2024, and the company plans to produce 25,000-26,500 tonnes of uranium in 2025.
