Armenia ready for mutually beneficial cooperation within EAEU - Pashinyan
YEREVAN. Dec 22 (Interfax) - Armenia is ready for mutually beneficial cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in order to maintain economic stability in the region, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"Let me once again reaffirm Armenia's readiness for mutually beneficial cooperation within the EAEU for the benefit of economic stability and sustainable development in our region," Pashinyan said at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in St. Petersburg on Sunday.
This is fundamentally crucial to ensure a clear distinction between the areas of applying supranational arrangements and those in which the priority of national competencies and sovereign decisions remains to ensure the sustainability of integration processes, he said.
"This year has become particularly significant for the EAEU international cooperation. Cooperation with key partners - Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Mongolia, China and India - is expanding, new markets are opening up, which contributes to diversified exports and imports, and reinforces the EAEU's positions in the global economy. In this context, we certainly welcome the signing of a free trade agreement with Indonesia," Pashinyan said.
Ensuring the smooth operation of the internal market is one of the priorities of integration, he said.
"Let me mention the prospects for enhancing trade and logistics cooperation based on the principles of reciprocity, equality, as well as sovereignty and national jurisdictions. In this context, I would like to note that the ongoing favorable and constructive changes create new opportunities for all countries of the major region, promoting stronger economic stability and expanding regional communication links," Pashinyan said.
He expressed gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the decision to unblock the transit of goods to Armenia via Azerbaijan, and for creating conditions for renewing bilateral trade.
"This is one of the first major achievements in establishing peace and stability in the region," Pashinyan added.
He also said that the single market of services' operations improve the quality and competitiveness of suppliers, simplify procedures and create better conditions for doing business, while the development of this area should be more rapid, as it directly affects the economic growth of the EAEU member states.
