Agreement signed to fund construction of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad

BISHKEK. Dec 16 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobayev has attended the signing ceremony of a loan agreement to finance the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad, the Kyrgyz government's press service said on Tuesday.

The agreement was signed between China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railroad Company LLC (a joint project company) and a syndicate of Chinese banks, including the China Development Bank and China Eximbank.

The total cost of the railway project is estimated at $4.7 billion, half of which (approximately $2.3 billion) will be provided by China as a 35-year loan to the joint project company established by the three countries. Kyrgyzstan, China and Uzbekistan will contribute the remaining amount to the company's authorized capital in percentages, precisely, China 51%, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan 24.5% each.

The railroad construction project includes the construction of 50 bridges and 29 tunnels with a total length of 120 kilometers. The railroad will run 304 kilometers across Kyrgyzstan.

The construction of the railroad was officially launched on December 27, 2024.
