IAEA prepared to support Kazakhstan at all stages of nuclear power plant project - Grossi
ASTANA. Dec 4 (Interfax) - The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is prepared to provide Kazakhstan with full support throughout all stages of its project to build a nuclear power plant (NPP), IAEA head Rafael Grossi said at a meeting with Kazakhstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Yermek Kosherbayev on Wednesday with Vienna.
Grossi also proposed drafting and signing a cooperation roadmap covering other key areas for collaboration the ministry said in a statement.
Kosherbayev briefed Grossi on Kazakhstan's plans to develop its nuclear power industry and build nuclear power plants, stressing the importance of meeting the country's strategic goal of carbon neutrality.
The minister thanked Grossi for the IAEA's continued support across all areas of cooperation with Kazakhstan. He also highlighted Kazakhstan's role in advancing the agenda of restoring sovereign equality among IAEA member states.
At the end of the meeting, Kazakhstan and the IAEA reaffirmed their mutual interest and readiness to further expand and deepen their partnership, the ministry's press service said.
Kazakhstan has plans to build several nuclear power plants. The first will be built by Rosatom and is expected to take around 11 years to complete.
