Armenia, EU sign strategic partnership agenda, Brussels proposes creating format for transport interconnectivity with Baku, Ankara
YEREVAN. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Armenia and the European Union adopted a strategic partnership agenda following a Partnership Council meeting on Tuesday.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas signed the document, the Armenian state news agency Armenpress reported. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said at a joint press conference following the signing ceremony that the European Union would provide Armenia with 15 million euros, which would be used for building peace and enhancing resilience, a number of initiatives would be implemented, in particular, mine clearance training, and equipment would also be provided.
Kos said she had proposed creating a quadrilateral format to ensure transport connectivity between Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and the EU.
"We started the discussions in October. I asked the minister to present Armenia's priorities on the transport connectivity agenda today, and then we will discuss them together," Kos said.
Armenia also faces challenges in the information space, but the EU backs it in this issue, she said.
She also said the EU would cooperate with Armenia in visa liberalization and security.
For his part, Mirzoyan said that Armenia-EU partnership is reaching the level of a strategic partnership.
"Elevating our partnership agenda to a strategic level and this is absolutely not the end of our ambition. Armenia's Parliament adopted in March the law launching the accession process of Armenia to the European Union. The first ever Armenian-EU summit to take place on May 5, 2026. It will be yet another remarkable occasion," Mirzoyan said.
